Please contact the surgery by telephone on: 0121 558 2613 between 08:00 and 18:30 to book your appointment, or alternatively, use the AccuRX link to contact the practice. We aim to respond within 48 hours Contact us about your request (accurx.com)

If you wish to speak to a doctor, nurse practitioner or nurse please call the reception number above and we will always try to offer an appointment, if available on the same day if your problem is urgent. If the problem is not urgent you will be offered an appointment booked ahead with a clinician. If an appintment if available, will be offered a time when a clinician will phone you to discuss this. The clinician will then discuss with you if they want you to come to the surgery.

The doctor’s work in a partnership and are happy to see any registered patient, regardless of which doctor’s name is on your medical record. This enables medical care to continue even if your doctor is absent; however, please try and consult with the same doctor for each episode of illness where possible.

Telephone Enquiries

We endeavour to deal with your query as efficiently and speedily as possible, so please be as helpful as you can. Remember that the receptionist is trying to provide the best service that the practice can offer for you and all other patients and will ask you for a very brief description of your problem. This is so they can give you the most appropriate member of the team to help you.

Recording of Telephone Calls

All of our incoming and outgoing calls, call to reception and calls from doctors, nurses and other staff members, are recorded. This allows us to train our staff to give you the best customer care we can. it also allows us to answer any queries which may arise after the call or after your telepehone consultation with a doctor or nurse. If you do not want your call recorded, please say so at the start of your call or telepehone consultation.

Extended Access

The practice is participating in the NHS’ national agenda to help improve access to GP’s and nurses.

We are now part of Caritas Primary Care Network.

Our Primary Care network Hubs are:

  • Cape Hill Medical Centre, Raglan Road, Smethwick B66 3NR
  • Hill Top Surgery, 15 Hill Top Road, Oldbury B68 9DU
  • Rood End Surgery, 182-184 Vicarage Road, Oldbury B68 9DU

Home Visits

Wherever possible, patients should attend the surgery, as facilities are far better for examinations and treatment. However, if you feel a home visit is necessary, please telephone the surgery on 0121 558 2613 before 11.00am if a visit is required for that day.

You will be asked to provide your telephone number when you call. Please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority to home visits. Please note that home visits can only be made when there are medical reasons which prevent you attending the surgery and not because of transport difficulties.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

You can also cancel appointments using Patient Access (Patient Access - GP appointments & prescriptions online). To do this you must be registered with Patient Access. For further information, please ask our reception team who will be happy to help.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • If you need a chaperone
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Private Medical Examinations

Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc., will require longer than a routine appointment.

These examinations do not form part of NHS Services, you will be charged for any such examination. Please check the fee chargeable before arranging any such examination. Please inform the receptionist when arranging such appointments.

TEACHING - Medical Students

Firm 1 Medical, Nurse and Health Visitor Students

The practice undertakes the teaching of medical students on a regular basis with 20-30 students attached to the practice. Should you wish to see a doctor or nurse without a student present we will fully respect your wishes. However, we are very grateful to all our patients who assist us in this valuable work by allowing students to talk with them. There are also student nurses and health visitors training in the practice from time to time.
